Spotlight
In the last version of OS X they introduced a very useful feature for finding files and things called Spotlight, it allows you to quickly search the computer for about anything, it searches file names, folder names, applications, along with meta data of items. It goes as far as searching in your address book and all, not quite as deep of search as google desktop, but great for finding things… I find that this feature wasn’t created for any other reason that to make it possible for users to find where the heck apple puts things when you download files, it seems as though OS X puts things where ever it feels like it, I have lost full iMovie files by just saving it, it seems like some things download to your documents fold, some to the desktop, it just sure seems easy for me to lose things, so spotlight comes in handy for searching for misplaced items.
Spotlight also works well for me to launch applications, it sure beats making 20 clicks through your application folder just to launch a program, I recently discovered a program on www.learntomac.com that makes launching programs and many other tasks, check out their videos on “Quicksilver”… some sweet tricks.
