Amazon MP3 downloads

Amazon.com has opened a new DRM free MP3 download service to compete with Apples iTunes Music Store. I have only purchased a few songs from iTunes first because of the DRM on them and it ties it to only a couple devices, I use many computers in a day so being able to use the music lots of places is a must, I also use Tivo Destop to serve my music but it only handles MP3 format, not AAC, as a matter of fact I'm not a fan of the AAC format for this reason. AmazonMP3 beta sure seems to be a sweet service, I aready have an amazon account so as simple as clicking one button I have purchase the song, there is a little catch, they use a downloader to get the songs, a small application for downloading the music through your browser and its available for Windows and Mac OS X, I didn't see a Linuc client at this point but I'd guess it to be in the works. I loaded the download software and looked around the Amazon MP3 store and clicked a song on one of my PC's and it downloaded the song (charged me 89 cents) and threw it into a folder under "my music" with a nice folder structure of artist and album name, like this type of organization, it also added it to windows media play automaticly along with album art and all, they say that it does the same on the mac by sticking it into iTunes. One sweet thing about this is that its a DRM Free MP3 file that I can move from machine to machine, play on anything I like as many things as I like just like I own it.... Ohhh yes, I do own it, I paid for it...lol.. all the sonds are encoded in 256k MP3 format, there is alway great debate on codec formats and sound quallity, but truely I think sound quallity in todays world isn't what it was 5-10 years ago, so either AAC or MP3 is "good enough" for most, the ability to have your music as handy as it is now is awesome.. Remember back in the day when you had a tape case full of tapes you left in your car waiting to be stolen?

Head on over to www.Amazon.com and on the left side menu is a link to MP3 Download and take a look around and let us know what you think of their service. Also as a side note your account information is encoded into each song so don't think of sticking it on some illeagal download site or anything.
